  2. Focus Rule Words: 1) mowed (mow + ed) 2) taxing (tax + ing) 3) fixed (fix + ed) 4) showed (show + ed) 5) relaxed (relax + ed)

  3. Academic Verbs: 6) evoke to bring about, conjure up The writer evokes a sad mood in this poem. 7) negate to go against or contradict; to void The counter argument negates the argument of the topic sentence. 8) eliminate to get rid of Eliminate repeated sentence starters.

  4. Commonly misspelled words: 9) dependent (depend + ent) There’s a dent in dependent. 10) harass (to bother)There’s an ( ) in harass. 11) privilege(priv + il +ege) There’s a leg in privilege. (no d)
