    1. Servings Veterans Better Via Repositories & DoD Sharing Session 124

    2. Scope of Session Describes how the HDR and DoD sharing initiatives enhances veterans care. Class demonstrates what shared medical information is available and where to find the medical data for data sources from outside of the VA. Data Sources will include DoD sharing through Bidirectional Health Information Exchange (BHIE), Federal Health Information Exchange (FHIE), Consolidated Health Data Repository (CHDR), and Laboratory Data Sharing and Interoperability (LDSI) and civilian sources of veteran data.

    3. Sharing Initiatives Enhances Veterans Care Veterans can obtain healthcare from a variety of organizations VA, DoD, Tricare, Indian Health, Civilian organizations Sharing the data between health care delivery organizations Provides a more complete view of the patients medical status or history Can identify conflicting treatments or medications Can identify duplicate treatments, tests and medications Sharing health data can improve the quality of care by using available data to obtain the most informed clinical decision and eliminating unnecessary invasive procedures Sharing data can reduce the cost of care by reducing duplicate procedures and medications.

    4. Repositories Repositories establishes a common architectural approach to data storage by establishing databases and data services to store and read data through a common data service from multiple databases and database locations. Current activities are providing data to current clients and expanding access to more data and more clients. Provide common logical access point to a federation of databases that hold data needed to provide for the care of veterans. Repositories is a repository of health information, clinical and administrative, for use by clinicians and other personnel in support of veteran-centric care. Repositories provides a national, longitudinal patient centric view of veteran’s health data, used by clinical, administrative and analytic applications.
