Meaning • Social Phobia is the irrational fear of social situations that involves judgment by others.

Statistics • 5.3 million adult Americans suffer from Social Phobia. • Every 1 in 51 people have it. • 5.5% of 13 to 18 year olds have a “severe disorder” for life.
Signs and symptoms • Blushing • Difficultly talking • Profuse sweating
Treatment • Treatments include social contact in group areas. Role playing and modeling to help become more comfortable in the given situation.
Managing Illness • Get regular exercise, sleep, and regularly timed meals. Try not to use caffeine, some over the counter medications, and stimulants.
