  2. Meaning • Social Phobia is the irrational fear of social situations that involves judgment by others.

  3. Places where this Most Occur. • Parties • Classroom • Family events • Clubs • And other social events.

  4. Statistics • 5.3 million adult Americans suffer from Social Phobia. • Every 1 in 51 people have it. • 5.5% of 13 to 18 year olds have a “severe disorder” for life.

  5. Signs and symptoms • Blushing • Difficultly talking • Profuse sweating

  6. Treatment • Treatments include social contact in group areas. Role playing and modeling to help become more comfortable in the given situation.

  7. Managing Illness • Get regular exercise, sleep, and regularly timed meals. Try not to use caffeine, some over the counter medications, and stimulants.
