2 CHRONICLES 20:1-30 “After this, the armies of the Moabites, the Ammonites, and the Meunites all declared war on King Jehoshaphat. Messengers told him, ‘A huge, combined army is now marching against you from beyond the Dead Sea . . .’”Verses 1-2
“Jehoshaphat was badly shaken by this news, so he prayed to the Lord for guidance, and he gave orders for a fast to be observed throughout the country.” Verse 3
“The entire country of Judah united together in seeking God’s help. They came from all the cities to pray to God.”Verse 4 “Then Jehoshaphat stood before all the people and prayed aloud.”Verse 5
Remember HOW BIG GOD IS “O Lord, Are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over ALL the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in YOUR hand, and NO ONE can withstand you!”Verse 6
Remember WHAT GOD HAS DONE “O God, DID YOU NOT drive out those who lived in this land before you brought your people Israel here?”Verse 7a
Remember WHAT GOD HAS PROMISED “And DID YOU NOT give this land to your friend Abraham’s descendants to be theirs forever?”Verse 7b
APPEAL TO GOD’S CHARACTER “. . .You would not let us invade them when you brought us from Egypt . . . and this is how they repay us! WILL YOU NOT stop them from invading us now?”Verse 10b-12a
“We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us and we don’t know what to do, BUT we are looking to you for help. All the men of Judah stood before the Lord with their wives and young children and even babies.” Verse 12-13
IT’S MY BATTLE _______________________ “This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s!”Verse 15b GOD’S RESPONSE
I’LL HANDLE IT ____________________ “You won’t need to fight in this battle. Just stand strong in your places, and you will see the Lord save you. Judah and Jerusalem, don’t be afraid or discouraged, because the Lord is with you! So they all bowed down and worshiped God.”Verse 17-18 GOD’S RESPONSE
“Then the king appointed musicians and singers in robes to march in front of the army and loudly praise the Lord! He told them to sing ‘Thank God! His faithful love endures forever!’” Verse 21
“At the moment they began to sing and to praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to begin fighting among themselves, and they destroyed each other!” Verse 22
“When the army of Judah arrived at the battleground, there were only dead bodies on the ground for as far as they could see. So they went out to gather the plunder. They found vast amounts of equipment, clothing, and other valuables—more than they could carry back! In fact, there was so much loot it took three days to collect it all! On the fourth day everyone gathered in the Valley of Beracah, which got its name that day because the people thanked the Lord there.” Verse 24-26
“Then, Jehoshaphat led his troops back to Jerusalem where they joyfully celebrated the great victory God had GIVEN to them.” Verse 27 “When all the other kingdoms surrounding Judah heard how God himself had fought and defeated the enemies of his people, they were gripped with fear, so Jehoshaphat enjoyed peace and security for the rest of his life.” Verse 29-30
