1. The University has Two Main Campus-level Systems:
The Campus Information System (PeopleSoft) maintained by ACS and
Office of Information Technology (OIT)-supported services like the Student Portal, WebCT and wireless
Each System requires a Password:
The CIS (PS) database password and
The OIT services password
Most times they are the same due to automatic synchronization from the PS database to the OIT system
Both systems use the same username: uNID PeopleSoft Roles: Password Confusion

These users may have never need to access any OIT services.

Employees who have PeopleSoft Access If you have PeopleSoft access you will have a pagelet (box) called the Enterprise Menu with a link called PeopleSoft in it. Employees that have this access will have 2 campus Passwords for their uNID: * one to access the CIS and KRONOS and * one to access Netcom-OIT services such as Office of Software Licensing, WebCT, campus wireless access, U Events Calendar submissions, or My.utah.edu portal. For security reasons, these two passwords CANNOT be synchronized. You will need to have two passwords. In this case: * to have your CIS password reset you will need to contact the Help Desk and ask for the Administrative Computing Services (ACS) Security team to have your password reset. * to have your Netcom-OIT Services password reset contact the Campus Help Desk and let them know what service you are trying to access.

Unfortunately, we're not yet to the point where all computing resources are accessible with a single user ID and password. Because sensitive information is stored in many of our systems, some people on campus are required to keep separate passwords for systems that access this data. These passwords are not allowed to automatically synchronize with other computer services on campus.
Many computer users on campus, especially staff and faculty, fall into this category of PeopleSoft Roles users. If you have PeopleSoft access you will have a pagelet (box) called the Enterprise Menu with a link called PeopleSoft in it. To find out if you may be one of these people, please call either the Campus Help Desk at 1-4000 or the ACS Help Desk and ask if your computer account has a PSRoles flag. If you do, your passwords CANNOT be synchronized and you will need to maintain your passwords in two separate places. If not, your passwords will be automatically synchronized when you update it in the Campus Information System (CIS).

10. Password Security PeopleSoft Roles users must have two different passwords for each campus computing system for security reasons
PeopleSoft Roles passwords should not be the same as OIT services passwords
Please encourage your PSRoles users to create a different secure password for each system
11. PeopleSoft Roles users may already have a OIT services password if: They were given their PS Role after being a campus employee for a while OR
They’ve set up a OIT services account but have forgotten the password
If this is the case, the Campus Help Desk can lookup the account and reset the password. The user can then change their password using the uNID Account Tools.
12. Call the Help Desk! When in doubt, and for any uNID-related password issue, users can call the Campus Help Desk. This is the fastest way to get password problems resolved.
If the issue is with their CIS (PeopleSoft) password, the CHD will pass them through to the ACS Help Desk.
Remember: tell your users that they should identify the service they are trying to access when speaking with the Campus Help Desk.
Health Sciences users can also call the ITS Computer Help Desk at 7-6000 to have their CIS password reset.
