The difference between a Senior Project Advisor and a Senior Project Sponsor:
The Senior Project Advisor(Ms. DeMauro, Mrs. Dora, Mr. Schmidt) • monitors your work during the application process (Oct. through May). • suggests revisions to your work to help your Senior Project meet with approval • enforces deadlines so that you can continue to be eligible for Project • coordinates the evaluation of your Senior Project presentation
Senior Project Sponsor is on the site where the Senior Project will be performed has expertise and interest in the topic of your Senior Project monitors your work during the month of Senior Project suggests revisions of your creations during the month of Senior Project must certify that your Senior Project hours have been completed.
Criteria for Participation • Have passed their OGT tests, • Are enrolled in a minimum of 5 classes for the duration of the second semester • Have no unexcused absences as of checkout day • Have no out of school suspensions
Criteria for Participation • Have no more than 7 excused absences in a single class • Are earning a Pass in any Pass/fail class • Have no outstanding fees, fines or school equipment • Are not receiving a D or an F in any class required for graduation
Senior Project Manual • READ THE MANUAL! • Save a copy on your computer or your Flash Drive so you can print out important forms to turn in • Do not print the entire manual • There is a menu on the website that lists the forms by due date for you to print out.

Timeline • Nov. 6 – Senior Project Interest form is due to faculty advisors. • Forms will be collected in the Senior Lounge during 10th period or after school from 3:00 until 4:00. • Students that attend afternoon vocational classes at Cleveland Heights should place the form in your advisor’s mailbox in the Main Office. • Each student should keep his/her own copy of each form.
Timeline • November 20 – Students must meet with their advisors in the senior lounge during 10th period or after school from 3:00 until 4:00. • Students will find out if their project was approved or if it needs revision and to get contact information of potential advisors, where requested.
Timeline • ALL INTERESTED STUDENTS MUST MEET WITH HIS OR HER ADVISOR IN PERSON AT THIS TIME! • REMEMBER THIS DATE: 11-20-13 • If you are absent, meet with your advisor as soon as possible after you return.

Successful Senior Project • For School Projects • Get the building principal’s approval for any work you will do in that building • Get in touch with the teacher that you wish to work with as soon as you can. • You may not shadow a teacher in a high school setting, especially here.
Successful Senior Project • For Mural Projects • Obtain approval from the Mural Committee by following the procedure listed in the Manual. • Be prepared to accept criticism of your design and guidance from your sponsor. • For a school mural, your sponsor must be an art teacher at this school and you must have taken art classes.
Successful Senior Project • Creative Projects • These include rebuilding, making, creating, designing, researching and investigating. • In your project description, clearly explain the role of the sponsor. Plan to meet with your sponsor at least two times a week during the project.
High Risk Projects • These projects have a high likelihood of NOT being approved. • creative writing • project without on-site sponsor • project completed out of town • project with an employer of high school students • small business projects
High Risk Projects • project attempted at the site of student’s employment • projects attempted at student’s or friend’s house • sports instructional video • projects at the following locations or involving the following vocations: • Athletic/fitness centers • Baby-sitting • House repair • Garden/lawn work
WARNING! Do not plan to receive any PAY for project! You might be approved to work at your place of employment, but you will NOT be “on the clock” during Project hours.
WARNING! Any project that would take occur at your place of employment must increase the scope of your current job and/or involve job shadowing another employee, such as a manager or supervisor, who has responsibilities that are above and beyond the student’s job description.
Frequently Asked Questions • I want to do a Senior Project, but I don’t know what to do. Can you help? • Yes. Your advisor can work with you to come up with a project that interests you if you make time to meet with us. • We get emails from groups and businesses asking for students to work with them. We also have past projects that can help inspire you to come up with a project.
Frequently Asked Questions • I have an idea for a Senior Project, but I don’t have a sponsor. Can you help? • Yes. We have a database of many potential sponsors and can also advise you on how to find your own sponsor. • There is no guarantee that we will have a project that matches any of your areas of interest exactly, but we will try to match you up with something that is of interest to you.
Frequently Asked Questions • I don’t have my paperwork complete and it’s due tomorrow. What should I do? • Submit an extension form IN PERSON to your advisor on the due date. • You will discuss the new deadline if you are approved. • You will be removed from project if you fail to submit the paperwork on the new deadline. • Do not put an extension form in your Advisor’s mailbox!
Frequently Asked Questions • Do I still have to go to class next semester? • Yes. • Really? • Yes, really. You may only have seven excused absences in a given class period. • If you are over seven absences in any class, neither Mrs. Gardner nor any of the secretaries in Room 110, will not sign your checkout form. Your Assistant Principal must sign your form. • Any extenuating circumstances, such as an extended illness, will be considered and reviewed on a case by case basis.
First Deadline • The Senior Project Interest Form is due on November 6th • Must be turned in to your Advisor in the Senior Lounge 10th period or after school before 4:00 PM.
