  2. #25-Why rigorous curriculum and differentiated instruction? • Teachers need to design challenging work that will result in students gaining knowledge, critical thinking and problem solving skills.

  3. Strategies currently used… • AVID • Bloom’s Taxonomy • Costa’s Levels of Questioning

  4. #26-Why do we need to change? What is best for kids? • Teachers need to be able to use a variety of strategies to accommodate individual learning styles and engage students in their classrooms.

  5. Teacher training… • 4 MAT training • Differentiated Instruction • Gardner’s Multiple Levels of Intelligences • Backward Design

  6. Benefits… • Test scores have improved • Attendance rates increased • Levels of student engagement have increased… • Cooperative learning • Debates/Socratic seminar

  10. #28- How can students be more actively involved in learning?What does it look like to be a teacher coach? • Learning is more meaningful if students construct knowledge as higher levels of thinking are involved. • Teachers act as facilitators rather than lecturers. Teachers ask thoughtful questions instead of telling.

  11. Strategies and training… • Online Daily Planner • 1 hour of professional development training • Lap top initiative • Train the trainer during PLC time

  12. Benefits • Students are responsible for make-up work • All class notes/websites used in class can be accessed by the students • Multiple learning styles are met • Students collaborate with one another • Discovery learning is emphasized
