  2. Welcome! • Come in and grab your spot! • Take out the chapter 11 text we used the other day. I have extras at the front of the room if you need a copy.

That’s What it’s All About… • Agenda • Raise the Bones of Chapter 11-Circuit Training • Work Sample • Learning Targets • I can identify how the elements of narrative, word choice, and sentence structure work in a text. • I can work with my peers to understand how the elements come together. • I can write a work sample to that brings together the work we have been doing.

  4. Circuit Training- Elements coming together • With your team, work through each station to identify, explain and review:

Circuit Training- Elements coming together • Roles you could take: • 1) Supply Organizer (colored pencils and both handouts) • 2) Focus Leader (exception for time-keeper) • 3) Resource Facilitator (your notebook or teacher?) • 4) Time Keeper (you will have 5 minutes at each station) • 5) Outlook Manager (you can do this!)

Circuit Training- Elements coming together • When you get to the station, do the following: • Identify roles for your group. • Identify the all of the examples in Lee’s writing with the colored pencil. • Pick the best example and write it on your handout. • Write about the effect of the element. You have 5 minutes at each station.

  7. Work Sample • Take out a piece of paper and a pen or pencil. • Write a narrative about a time you saw bravery in a person. (Think back to Jem and Mrs. Dubose as an example.) This could a time you were brave or a time you saw someone act brave. • This should be approx. 1-2 pages and done in class.

  8. Writing practice - late narratives are due Oct.25 4. Time you saw two sides to someone (sentence structure practice, revised for word choice) 5. Conclusion practice – revise a previous narrative ending,1paragraph 6. Work sample – in class timed write: Time you met someone brave (to practice putting all of the narrative elements together) • Personal Exposition (setting practice) • Time you were misunderstood (1st person POV practice, revised 3rd person POV paragraph) • Time you saw a flaw in others or watched someone grow up (indirect characterization practice, revised to add dialogue and blocking)
