Connecting DNA to Meiosis to Inheritence By Matt and Evan
Teachable Unit Goals • The Learning Goal: At the end of the session, what will the student know, be able to do? In what way will they be changed? • The Activity: How will they learn? What is the learning activity and how is it implemented? • Assessment: What will the evidence of learning be? How will both the teacher and the student know if they have achieved the learning goals?
Compare and Contrast Activity • Assign students into 4-7 groups depending on class size and assign a phase to each group to compare and contrasts between mitosis and meiosis using the previous two videos as examples • Have students record results on white boards
Group Activity Punnett squares with Edible Alleles • Different colors represent different alleles. One designated dominant, one recessive.
Another Punnett Square Activity • Using the polling site, assign students into groups, and have them work through different genetic problems and submit their answers.
Places to go from here • These activities could then be funneled into working with pre-made pedigrees • Designing their own pedigrees • Picking genetic disorders to explore
