Goals of Our District • Santa Maria ISD will provide high quality instructional programs leading to Early College Readiness, science and technology and high paying career preparation. • Santa Maria ISD shall provide state of the art facilities, support services, and maintain a safe and drug free environment for students and employees. • Santa Maria ISD shall provide for the recruitment, development, support and retention of highly qualified administrators, teachers, and auxiliary staff.
Goals of Our School • Academic • Santa Maria High School will implement effective instructional programs for all students to meet advanced academic performance in all areas, reduce dropout rate (1.0% or less) and meet (95%) graduation/completion rate. • Career • Santa Maria High School will implement a comprehensive health and safety plan that will enhance the learning climate of all the SMISD learning community to ensure 100% of the students graduate under the Distinguihed or Recognized Graduation plan and meet College Readiness Standards for 2013-2014. • Personal/Social • Santa Maria High School will maintain highly qualified administrators, teachers, and instructional paraprofessional.
Role of the School Counselor • American School Counselor Association (ASCA) • (State) School Counseling Model • focus on academic, career, and personal/social developmentof ALL students with the primary objective of promoting and enhancing student learning • My goal, as school counselor, is to help ALL of our students be academically successful!

Let’s Work Together • By providing students with career readiness, students will be able to be follow a career pathway that will be of interest to them. • By providing students with individual counseling and planning, students will be ready to cope challenging situations and transition from high school to college or work. • By providing students with responsive services, students will be able to work through problems or issues with good guidance. • By refocusing our efforts on helping our school and district meet our goals, the school counseling program looks forward to developing and implementing prevention, intervention, and support services designed for our school’s needs!
