Dangling elliptical clause (荡空省略从句结构):在when, while, though 等连词引导的从句中,其主语及相应的动词,尤其是系动词,通常都可以省略。 • 1. 连词when引导的时间状语从句中主谓的省略 • He was fond of playing on the beach when a child(=when he was a child). • I shall not fail to help you when necessary (=when it is necessary for me to help you).
2. 连词while引导的状语从句中主谓的省略 • I got acquainted with him while on a visit to Tokyo (=while I was on a visit to Tokyo). • 3. 连词till 及 until引导的状语从句中主谓的省略 • I did not notice it till too late (=till it was too late for me to notice it).

affix 是比较正式的词, 通常指“把一件较小的或次要的东西永远加于另一件东西上” • affix a stamp to the parcel • annex是比较正式的词,表示“附加”, 也指“扩充”或“兼并”, 如: • annex a condition to a contract • fasten表示“结牢”、“拴住”,用于有形的东西,有时可与attach互用 • fasten an ox to the tree
