What is the Geo-Institute? • One of eight ASCE specialty membership organizations. • Created by the ASCE in October 1996. • 11,000+ members and 49 Organizational members. • Specialty conferences, journals and practice-oriented publications; educational programs; networking and coalition-building; technical committees and task forces, and leadership on emerging issues. • An extensive awards program. • Numerous networking events, technical committees, and vibrant annual conferences and exhibitions. • Geo-Strata, the official bi-monthly magazine of the Geo-Institute, is a free membership benefit. • Serves as the United States member society of the Int’l Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE).

Recent G-I Achievements • Hosted the IFCEE ’09 Congress – Orlando, FL – March 15-19, 2009. • Signed an agreement of cooperation with the Chinese Geotechnical Society at IFCEE ’09. • Established the AGP Certification Program and inducted its first class of D.GE’s at IFCEE ’09. • Formed Strategic Task Forces including Annual Meeting, Practice Journal, Geotechnical Constructability Report Guidelines. • Formed the Organizational Member Council. • Formed the Student Presidential Group.

  17. Recent G-I Achievements • Approved a Geotechnical Special Publication honoring Bengt Fellenius, to be published in March 2012. • Held its first traveling short course in San Diego, CA. • Established a partnering agreement with the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute encouraging the two organizations to work together to advance their mutual interests in the mitigation of earthquake hazards. • Created a new Student Endowment Fund to support the activities of the Student Participation Committee.

  18. Recent G-I Achievements • Established the Schnabel Foundation Award. • Established the Corporate Volunteer Award. • Created several Task Forces to study various aspects of G-I activities and benefits. • Completed the new Jet Grouting Guideline Document… • Plus, a lot more to come!
