Right Now . . . Seek information about the colleges you may want to attend (look into 5-10 schools), or about the military or employment field you are interested in. Compare these choices and review your financial options. Plan visits with your parent(s) to the schools that interest you. Contact the school before visiting! Sign up and prepare for the SAT and/or the ACT exams. Register with the NCAA Clearinghouse (DI and DII). Keep looking for scholarships and financial aid resources. *If you intend to apply for an ROTC scholarship, begin the process now!

SAT or ACT ? • SAT • Time - 3 hours 45 min. • Scoring • Minus a fraction of a point for wrong answers • No penalty if left blank • Price - $47 • 3 sections • Reading • Math • Writing • ACT • Time - 3.5 – 4 hours • Scoring • No penalty for guessing • No penalty if left blank • Price - $33;$48 • 4 0r 5 sections • English • Reading • Math • Science reasoning • Writing (optional) Most colleges accept BOTH test scores. Many students take practice tests on both and focus on preparing for and taking the one they are likely to perform better on.
Summer • Review your senior year class schedule. Challenge yourself with CP, honors, and AP classes. • Continue visiting, comparing, and narrowing down your school search. • Continue to research employment/military options. • Plan summer activities early. Enrich yourself by volunteering, getting an interesting job or internship, or signing up for special summer learning programs.
