Component 3E Demonstrate Flexibility and Responsiveness
Outcomes • Participants will deepen their knowledge of the Danielson Framework Component 3E. • Participants will brainstorm ways to apply flexibility and responsiveness into daily instruction.
Read and Reflect “The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.” -Albert Einstein
Let’s Be Flexible Think of a lesson or classroom experience that you planned but had to change mid-instruction. Write a sentence or two to describe what happened.
Let’s Be Flexible Think about… • The lesson objective • What happened that caused you to change your plan? • How did you feel about having to change your plan? • Was your change successful and did it require further flexibility?
What Would You Do? • Get into groups of three or four. • Take an envelope labeled “What Would You Do?” from the center of your table. • In each envelope, there are three scenarios that might require different types of flexibility, responsiveness, and persistence. • Talk in your groups and jot down what you would do if the situation occurred in your class. • Be ready to share with another group near you!
Reflection and Next Steps • On a piece of paper write down your thoughts on the following questions: • Which scenario was the easiest for you to demonstrate flexibility? Why? • Which scenario was the hardest for you to demonstrate flexibility? Why? • What implications or applications come to mind in reference to your daily practice, classroom, and planning?
