  2. Objectives: • I can use Elizabethan sentence structure. • I can use Elizabethan verb forms. • I can use second person pronouns. • I can participate in partner and group activities according to our classroom norms.

  3. Silent Conversation • With a partner, record a conversation on paper (at least 5 exchanges)

  4. What is the most difficult part of Shakespeare’s Writing?

  5. Sample Readings/Performances • King Lear • Comedy of Errors • Julius Caesar

  6. Elizabethan 2nd Person Pronouns • Ex. “I, Martin, take thee, Jane, as my lawful wife.” • Notes:

  7. Elizabethan Verb Inflection • Adds an –est or –st to the end of a verb • Usually when using 2nd person pronouns • Examples: • “Thou liest, malignant thing” • What didst thou see?” • Why canst thou not see the difference?”

  8. Sentence Structure Mash-Up • Groups of four (each pair finds another pair) • Organize the index cards into Shakespeare’s original sentence. “Men at some time are masters of their fates.”

  9. Troublesome and Odd Words • Using the provided lists, add at least 10 words to your silent conversation

  10. An Insulting Conversation… • Read chorally • Be LOUD • Be ANGRY • Stay TOGETHER

  11. For Homework: • Write a letter to Shakespeare sharing how you feel about his work. • Your 1 pg long letter must include: • 2nd person pronouns • Verb inflection • At least 10 words from the handouts
