Accelerated Math

1. Accelerated Math • Go over class rules and math class procedures. • Pass out textbooks • Review textbooks • Bring in a blank cd and I will copy the book for you. • Review homework page set up and note taking system

2. Our classroom rules are as follows: • Respect others and yourself. • Bring all books and materials to class. • Arrive to class on time. • Follow the school rules as outlined in the student agenda

3. Possible consequences for ignoring these rules are: • Warning and refocus • Silent lunch • Email home or phone call home • Parent, student, teacher conference

4. Accelerated Math • Line up quietly outside room 610 (along the lockers) until I invite you into the classroom. • Come on time and prepared to class everyday with your math binder, math book and a pencil. • When you arrive for math class, sit in your seat, take out your homework and place it on the left hand side of your workspace.

5. Classroom Procedures • Begin working on the warm up. It will be illuminated on the screen in the front of the room or I will hand it to you as you walk in the door. • Students are expected to actively participate in all lessons. • ask questions, offer solutions, challenge responses, etc. • When working in groups, maintain your focus (no socializing). • Respect and listen to your peers’ ideas and problem solving methods (there is always more than one way to solve a problem!). • ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND!!!!!

6. Class work 10% Class work is completed in classand turned in the same day. Class work also includes your participation. You must ask and answer questions. Please respect your classmates. There may be more than one way to solve a problem!!

7. Homework 15% Homework is used to help you practice the skills you have been taught and it is an opportunity for you to ask questions the following day if you did not comprehend a problem. Homework will be assigned every night and will be graded on effort. All homework is due the next day. Your child will receive a weekly homework grade based on the number of homework assignments each week. Math homework must be done in pencil. It is the student’s responsibility to get missed assignments upon their return from an absence. Homework assignments can be found on the Hokies website.

8. Quizzes 30% • Quizzes help determine where you may still need help prior to a test. It is important for you to pay attention in class and complete your homework as some quizzes may be a surprise.

9. Tests 45% • Tests are used to evaluate your progress. Tests will be administered following each chapter and are never a surprise. You will have ample time to prepare. It is important that you study for tests in order to perform to the best of your ability. If you are absent on the day of the test, you must make arrangements to take it on the day of your return. It is the your responsibility to ask for the test. Tests that are not made up will receive a 0.

10. Page Heading Mrs. Cooper August 25, 2010 Pgs.103-105 #1-15 even • Your first and last name must be on your paper. • This heading must be on every paper you give me including tests and quizzes. • It goes in the right hand corner of your paper.

11. Homework Page Format • Fold your paper in half. • Write your problems neatly, beginning on the left hand side of the page. • Use pencil at all times. • Skip a line between your problems. • Circle or box your answer. • Use the right side of the fold for more problems.

You need to find the cups of cooked rice and the number of servings for 4 cups of dry rice. Make a Plan: Since an exact answer is needed and the question contains a pattern, use mental math.
