  2. Methodology Interviewing • Leger Marketing conducted this survey via online. Data was collected between August 27 and September 2, 2008. Respondent Qualification • A random selection was achieved by inviting male and female respondents to complete the survey. A total of 1,511 interviews were completed. The margin of error for a sample of this size is +/-2.5%,19 times out of 20. Quality Control • Leger Marketing’s experience and expertise in public opinion and market research extend to the quality and standards of every research project. Detailed verification and validation procedures at each stage of the process ensure data accuracy.

  3. One third of Canadians have heard of COPD • While only one third Canadians are aware of the acronym COPD, almost half have heard of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Question 1:Have you ever heard of any of the following conditions? n=1,511.

  4. Awareness is lowest in Quebec • Awareness of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is lower in Quebec than the rest of Canada. Question 1:Have you ever heard of any of the following conditions? (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) Total Sample: n=1,511.

  5. Six per cent of Canadians have been diagnosed with COPD • Incidence of COPD is 6% which is unchanged from 2007. Question 2:Have you ever been diagnosed by a physician with any of the following conditions? n=1,511.

  6. 2 in 5 Canadians do not know that Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease can kill you • Forty-three percent of Canadians do not know that you can die from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. • Quebecers are least likely to know that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is fatal. • Lack of realization that the acronym COPD is for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is highlighted again here; 30% said that you can die from COPD. Question 3:From what you know, which of the following diseases can you die from?. Total Sample: n=1,511.

  7. COPD interferes with many aspects of life • Over half of those with COPD say that the condition interferes with sleep and/or day-to-day activities. • For some COPD affects relationships friends and family and their ability to work. Question 4:You said you have been diagnosed with COPD (or related condition). How often does COPD regardless of the nature or severity, interfere in any way with the following aspects of your life? Total Sample: n=101.
