  1. Aroma-Chologythe study of the interrelationship between psychology and fragrance technology to elicit a variety of specific feelings and emotions … relaxation, exhilaration, happiness, sensuality and well-being… by using pleasant aromas to stimulate olfactory pathways in the brain. Hypothalamusthe portion of the brain that coordinates responses of the autonomic nervous system, e.g. body temperature; food and fluid intake; and hormonal shifts. Limbic System the portion of the brain that controls our moods and emotions and contains the apparatus for the formation, storage and retrieval of memories. Molecules are the smallest possible amount of a substance. You can’t see them, even with a microscope, but your nerves can detect them. Nasal Cavity an incompletely divided chamber that lies between the floor of the skull and the roof of the mouth and functions in the warming and filtering of inhaled air and in the sensing of odors.

  2. Odora quality of something that stimulates the olfactory organ. Olfactoryrelating to the sense of smell. Olfactory Bulb sits at the base of the brain; it is the first region of the brain to receive sensory input from the olfactory epithelium. It communicates via multiple pathways with numerous other regions of the brain, e.g. limbic system, hypothalamus and cortex. Olfactory Epithelium a small patch of tissue (covered with clean mucus) located high in the nose. Receptor cells on the epithelium send “odor’ signals to the brain. Receptor Cells each of these cells has microscopic hairs, called cilia that extend into the mucus on the olfactory epithelium, where they intercept odor molecules. Odor molecules bind chemically to specific sites on the cilia, triggering an electrical message that is transmitted along the olfactory nerves to the olfactory bulb and onto the brain.
