There are 23 national parks in Russia.The National Nature park "Valdaysky" was founded in 1990. It is situated in Novgorodskaya region. Its territory is about 160 hectares.
On its territory there are 70 lakes, 20 rivers, representatives of rare flora and fauna. The famous lakes are Valday and Seliger.
The National park “Losiny Ostrov” is the biggest of its kind in Europe that is located within the borders of a megalopolis. It is on the northeast of Moscow. It became the first national park in Russia in 1983, covering 128 square kilometers.
Barguzinsky nature reserveis situated on the northeast of Baikal in the central part of western Barguzin mountain. The total area of the park is 374,400 hectares.
There are no national parks in Altai, but there are more than 30 nature reserves. The most beautiful and unique among them is the Tigireksky nature reserve.
This reserve was created to protect and to study the variety of fauna and flora typical for the West Altai. Plants, animals and birds are protected there. People are not allowed to visit the nature reserve. Specialists come to Tigireksky nature reserve to study its unique wildlife.
The Tigireksky nature reserve is likely to be included into the list of the World Cultural Heritage. Besides there are a lot of nice places of picturesque land in our region which should be protected. We can’t stop the technological progress. We are to change our attitude to the environment. We must learn to take care of our Mother-nature in order to preserve it for future generations.
