Project Outline General English language input may not be able to cater for the needs of students in their own discipline Course instructors were not trained to assess / give feedback on students’ English proficiency Many students had difficulty doing as well in academic studies as their abilities suggested they should be able to do (Bruffee, 2008) Learning English through content has been regarded as a central concern in second language acquisition (Mohan, 1986). The demand for WAC programmes began to arise in the US in 1970s (Thaiss, 1998). EAC--EE(Dec 2, 2010)
Project Objectives • Enable students to • Identify and apply key discipline-specific genre structures • Use accurate and appropriate language in communicating with members of the academic community EAC--EE(Dec 2, 2010)

Methodology • Online feedback ( Writing only) • Criterion-referenced feedback (Writing and presentation) EAC--EE(Dec 2, 2010)
Expected Outcomes • The findings will • Examine the effectiveness of various teaching modes (online, face-to-face consultation & co-teaching) • Assess the effectiveness of integrating the English language input into the EE curriculum EAC--EE(Dec 2, 2010)
Impact on teaching and learning • A small step in the form of a language teaching project in EE, is a giant leap for English across the Curriculum in the future. EAC--EE(Dec 2, 2010)
Project Outline Outline the project and methods to be employed. State the project expected outcomes Does the project involve self assessment, if so how? How might the outcomes affect teaching and learning and benefit the University as a whole? EAC--EE(Dec 2, 2010)
