University of Montenegro • On October 1, 1974, University of Montenegro opened its doors after five years of planning and building. • From 1974 to 2005 UoM was the only university at Montenegro. • In 2006-7: • Number of undergraduate students:10.645 • Number of master students: 100 • Faculty: 1.273 • Staff: 332 • 17 Departments with 85 degree programs Goran Šuković, University of Montenegro
Main building Goran Šuković, University of Montenegro
Faculty of Sciences Goran Šuković, University of Montenegro
Faculty of Sciences • Founded 1979 under the name Institute for Mathematics and Physics • 1989 – name changed to Faculty of Sciences • From 1979 to 2003: • 4 years undergraduate studies Goran Šuković, University of Montenegro
Faculty of Sciences • From 2003 to 2006: • Undergraduate studies:4 years-240 ECTS • Master studies:1 year-60 ECTS • From 2006: • Undergraduate studies:3 years -180 ECTS • Master studies:2years -120 ECTS • PhD studies:3 years -180 ECTS Goran Šuković, University of Montenegro

Number of Students Math and Computer Science Computer Science Goran Šuković, University of Montenegro
Computer ScienceProgramme • In 2001 – new programme Computer Science, based on ACM Computing Curricula 2001: Computer Science 2001 • 4 year programme • First two years – fundamentals: math + core programming skills • Third and fourth year - strong emphasis on applications: compilers, databases, AI, web technologies, OO design, UML, number of elective modules Goran Šuković, University of Montenegro
CS course structure • Basic course structure – 16 weeks semester (actually 14 working weeks), homeworks + projects + midterms (one or two) + final • Computer Science degree program revised in 2006 due to moving from 4-year to 3-year curriculum • No electives, no final project, some courses moved to Master studies Goran Šuković, University of Montenegro
Our approach (1) • Not just to tell you how other people have done things so that you can do the same • But rather to educate you to the point where you are able to invent new things • Professional education in computer science combined with mathematics Goran Šuković, University of Montenegro
Our approach (2) • Before applying, consider whether you really want to spend three or four years in intensive study in CS: • theory and practice • science and engineering • software and hardware Goran Šuković, University of Montenegro
Our Approach (3) • Not IT training courses for the specific tools only • We make available to students a wide range of information and tools for their investigation • A message to the future students • “If your primary aim is to become competent in a technique in current demand, with a view only to employability in the short term, or only as a supporting skill to interests and abilities outside computer science, then our programme are probably not what you are looking for.” Goran Šuković, University of Montenegro
