  2. Cleft Grafting Citrus • Materials List • Rootstock (Plant to graft onto). • Grafting material (Scion wood). • Sharp knife. • Hand pruners. • Grafting tape. • Plastic bag.

  3. Preparing Rootstock for Grafting Cut back to a straight section of the stock. Remove lower branches. Ready for the next step.

  4. Splitting the Rootstock Remove any torn or damaged tissue. Split the stock by tapping the knife.

  5. Prepare Scion Wood Select healthy, mature new growth. Cut the scion in the shape of a bevel. Completed graft stick. Side view.

  6. Making the Graft Slide the scion into the split, lining up the cambium. Be sure to cover all cut surfaces. Tightly wrap the graft with grafting tape. Finish by tying off the tape.

  7. Reduce Water Loss Ready to cover. Cut leaves in half to reduce water loss.

  8. Plastic Cover Protect Graft Sticks can be used to support the plastic bag. Be sure to label. Completed project.

  9. Aftercare Remove grafting tape Good callus formation. Graft is well healed.
