  2. Causes of Pulmonary Hypertension HYPOXIA!! Hypervolumia Cardiac disease/arrhythmia Emphysema/COPD Pulmonary embolism

  3. Causes of Hypoxia Alveolar Hypoventilation – CNS, COPD, OSA and medication induced. Anemia – Reduction of O2 carrying capacity Low inspired oxygen concentration. V/Q mismatch (Ventilation and Perfusion) – Embolism, COPD, Pneumonia, and ARDS etc…

  4. Signs and symptoms of pulmonary hypertension Decreased mental status Anxiety Jugularvenous distension -Dyspnea/Tachypnea -Wheezes/crackles (rales) -More persistent cough Tachycardia and/or irregular heart rate • Skin Color • Diaphoresis Peripheral Edema

  5. Treatment of Pulmonary Hypertension • Diuretics • Anti coagulants • Vasodilators • Oxygen therapy!

  6. In conclusion... HYPOXIA Peripheral vasoconstriction RELIEF OF RESPIRATORY DISTRESS! Pulmonary Hypertension Peripheral vasodilatation Decreased PaO2/SPO2 Decreased pulmonary hypertension Decreased Hypoxia Increased respiratory distress So... Increased oxygen (FIO2)
