Objectives • Be able to utilized the USDA workbook to complete “6 cent application”
6 Cent Workbook • What you will need to complete the workbook. • Menus • All reimbursable meals. • Portion size for all reimbursable menu items. • Oz. equivalents for each component that will be counted as part of a reimbursable meal. • Menu for Salad Bar • Portion size for each item offered as part of the salad bar.
USDA 6 Cent Workbook • Where is it? • http://www.fns.usda.gov/cnd/healthierschoolday/6cents_tools.htm • Then what? • Select the age/grade group that you will be working on. • Click on the button at the top that says “Enable Editing”.
USDA 6 Cent Workbook • Click on Tab titled “All Meals” • Enter the SFA Name and the dates of the menu at the top of the page. • Enter “Meal Name” in the box. • Enter the TOTAL oz. equivalents or cups offered in each category. • Meat/Meat Alternate, Grains, Fruit, Vegetables, Milk. • Do this for each reimbursable meal to be offered that week.
USDA 6 Cent Workbook • If you offer a salad bar daily, click on the tab titled “Optional VegBar” • Enter the items offered on the salad bar in the appropriate sections by clicking on the drop down box. • If an item that you offer is not listed: • Ensure that you are in the correct Subgroup • Select the unspecified (“Dark Green Unspecified”) and list the item in the blanks at the bottom of the page.
USDA 6 Cent Workbook • Daily Menu: • Select the tab with the day of the week that you are entering. • In the left column click on the drop down arrow and select the menu for that day. • If you have multiple menus select each one that is offered that day • The total oz. equivalents or cups will automatically fill in.
USDA 6 Cent Workbook • Scroll to the right on the page and verify that the amounts loaded correctly. • Under the Milk Type heading select the types of milk offered. • Scroll to the right on the page till you see the heading “(day of the week) Vegetable Subgroup Data Entry”
USDA 6 Cent Workbook • If you offer a salad bar check the box at the top of the page to credit those items. • Under each subgroup select the items offered as you would on the Salad bar page. • Be sure to select the largest amount of each subgroup offered that day.
Nutrikids • What you will need to get started. • Menu • Recipes
Where to start? • Recipes • Enter the recipe for each menu item. • Misc. Tab • Enter food based components offered by the recipe. • Under subgroups • Select the appropriate Subgroup. • Fruit juice, Vegetable subgroup, Whole grain rich, Grain based Dessert. • If the item is a milk offering then check the milk box and select the type of milk.
Menu • Menu tab click Enter/Modify Menus. • Enter the menu for the day as normal. • Save the menu. • Click on the “Reim. Meal Group” button at the top of the page.
Menu • In the new window click “Add New Meal” at the top left of the page. • Enter the name of the menu. • Select the items to include on the menu. • Save and press close. • Close the next screen. • Enter the remaining days of the week as above.
Menu • On the screen with the calendar press the “Wkly Requirements” button and then select the first day of the week. • This should show you the completed workbook for that menu. • You can print the workbook. • You may also want to print the report titled “Menu Contribution Report”.
