  3. •     The Natural Monument of Malpais de la Arena, is situated in the middle of the municipality of La Oliva, on the island of Fuerteventura. •     It covers an area of about 870.8 hectares. •     It also contains a volcano which is about 420 meters high and is the highest point of this natural monument.

  4. WHY IS THIS AREA PROTECTED? • This space was established by Law 12/1987 of 19 June, Declaration of Natural Areas of the Canary Islands of National Interest and reclassified by Law 12/1994, of December 19, as a natural monument. • The constitution of natural protected monuments is in the habit of attending to someone of the following aims: • Creation of a representative network of the principal ecosystems or natural regions of a territory. • To protected actively areas or natural elements of singular value under the scientific, cultural, educational, aesthetic, landscape or recreative point of view.

  6. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS • From the beginning, this landscape of great beauty and strange shapes has not been modified by human hands, so in the Malpais de la Arena, we may find some of the best stocks tabaibas, chats, gorse and lichens of the Canary archipelago.

  7. Also they can be enviromental impacts the construction of roads, hotels, buildings, etc, that is to say, you act to attract to the tourim and this way what they obtain is malpais of the sand destroys the natural monument.
