The most important factor governing student learning is classroom management • It is the teacher who makes the difference in the classroom • Effective teachers manage their classrooms, ineffective teachers discipline their classrooms • A well-managed classroom is a task-oriented and predictable environment
Characteristics • Students are deeply involved in their work. • Students know what is expected of them and are generally successful. • There is relatively little wasted time, confusion or disruption • The climate of the classroom is work-oriented, but relaxed and pleasant

How? • Arranging the room • Seating Charts • Grade Book • Entering the room • Greeting the students • Your first set of directions • Getting the students to work right away • Making expectations known
