I Burattini • Known for their energy and rudeness • Small and portable stages • Past: Uses painted and decorated donkey carts • Performed in Naples, called guaratelle
Le Marionette • Performed from above with strings • Middle – Upper Class audience • Shows real human body movements/gestures
I Pupi • A form of marionette with rods attached to the head • Similar to Le Marrionette • The puppet itself could reach until 1.2 meters
5 Interesting Facts about I Burattini • Puppeteers got arrested by mocking the Pope or government • Very artistic and it seems like cartoon • Uses the pinky, index finger and the thumb • In Po Valley (Northern Italy): Played by several puppeteers & stages are exceptional • Naples, Rome, and Milan’s street performances: episodic; played by one person.
