Charlotte • Charlotte School of Law is located in Uptown Charlotte, a bustling metropolitanarea, filled with diverse arts and culture, dining and coffeehouses, parks, sporting events, and festivals. • Charlotte is the 17th largest city and the 2nd largest financial center in the US. • Home to more than 850 foreign owned companies from 42 countries. • Charlotte School of Law is situated within walking distance of numerous corporate and legal employers, including both Federal and County Courthouses. • Charlotte nightlife offers numerous restaurants and performances, and a variety of social events. • Charlotte is home to many major sports teams: NFL’s Carolina Panthers, NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats, MiLB’s Charlotte Knights, NASCAR, ECHL’s Charlotte Checkers, and others.
LL.M. in American Legal Studies • Charlotte School of Law offers a LL.M. in American Legal Studies, • designed to provide legal education to international law graduates who have received a primary law degree from universities in their home countries and who seek to gain a deeper understanding of U.S. law. • Students have a choice of two tracks: • the Flexible Track or • the New York Track, which serves to assist students in satisfying LL.M. course prerequisites set in place by the New York State Bar.
Flexible Track • Whatever the individual student’s objective in seeking to obtain this LL.M. degree, our innovative curriculum will impart a solid understanding of the distinctions in the U.S. legal system while providing each student with some flexibility to direct their studies toward their own personal goals and objectives.
New York Track • New York is one of a few states that, under certain circumstances, allows persons to take their state bar examination. • Our “New York Track,” serves to assist students in satisfying LL.M. course prerequisites set in place by the New York State Bar. • Our LL.M. program also assists students in fulfilling NY’s 50 hour pro bono requirement.
Ambassador Scholarship • Full-tuition scholarship • Exemplary applicants: • Possess a qualifying first foreign degree in law; • History of high academic achievement; • Demonstrated leadership capacity; • Demonstrated capacity for potential success in the CSL cultural model; • Superior personal awareness; • Ability to contribute to the practice, development and study of law; • Commitment to service; • Contribution to a globally diverse student population; • Ability to master legal studies in English; and • Willingness to serve as a LL.M. alumni leader and ambassador for CSL. • No additional application is required to be considered
Housing & Cost of Living • Our Uptown location is near plenty of housing within walking distance and with many transportation options nearby, including light rail. • Surrounding neighborhoods also offer extensive varieties of convenient housing. • Secured student discounts and roommate services are available.
