Our Mission • Educate students and businesses on environmental and economic benefits of sustainable business practices • Provide students with the opportunity to develop innovative strategies that address sustainability goals of businesses in a real-world environment • Offer companies and organizations quality consulting to increase efficiency and success of the Bay Area green business sector • Promote and distinguish businesses who value sustainability at their core
Member Responsibilities • Mandatory member retreat (February 23-24) • Attend weekly team meetings and meet weekly deadlines • Attend 4 out of 5 generalmeetings, attend socials, fundraising events, community service events and end-of-semester banquet • Complete and submit midterm and end-year evaluations • Present midterm and end-of-semester deliverables
Executive Board • Direct overall direction of organization • Shape long-term structure of BEACN • BEACN’s internal consultants
Branding • Project Description Researching and developing a strategy for a local food and produce storefront looking to market their location and increase their presence in Berkeley. (Berkeley) Tasks • Develop holistic branding image to be used in all marketing materials • Create marketing handbook including social media strategies • Contribute to an increase in storefront foot traffic

Metrics • Project Description: Work with wine kegging company to calculate metrics for quantifying the benefits of wine on tap. (Berkeley, CA) Tasks • Research lifecycles of keg repurposing. • Calculate the carbon footprint of keg manufacturing. • Develop creative statistics to show the benefits of wine in kegs.

Business Planning • Project Description Assist a San Francisco non-profit in developing cost structures and a steady revenue stream for the next 2-3 years. (San Francisco, CA) • Tasks • Create a timeline for business growth • Evaluate revenue and cost sources • Develop plan for profitability

Consumer Marketing • Project Description Create a calendared marketing plan for a 3-6 month period for a green product design and manufacturing company’s signature sustainable product. (Oakland, CA) This includes: • Competitive analysis of rival products • Social media strategy • Gaining knowledge of target customer

Program Development • Project Description: Develop a recycling program that helps local shoe company achieve cradle-to-cradle design. (San Francisco, CA) Tasks • Understand recycling process • Analyze potential partnerships for recycling centers • Conduct cost analysis of program feasibility

Project Team Requirements • Project Manager • Lead, motivate and guide team members • Facilitate communication with the client • Organize project goals, timeline, and completion of deadlines • Consolidate and prepare deliverables • Attend and actively contribute to Executive Board meetings every other Wednesday night Expected Hours Per Week • 4 on a very quiet week • 15 on the busiest week of the semester

General Meetings • BEACN meets every other Wednesday night from 7-8:30 pm; Room TBA • Case interview skills • Case study practice • Consulting skills workshops • Professional development training • Guest speakers from consulting industry and sustainability fields
Application Process • Rolling applications - final deadline Thursday, 2/7 at 11:59pm • Applications posted at http://beacn.berkeley.edu • Submit to beacn.berkeley@gmail.com • Interview invites for new applicants to be received by Friday 5pm- check your emails! • Sign up for an interview slot by Friday, 2/8 at 9 pm.
First Round Interviewing Process Friday February 8 • Returning member interviews from noon to 5pm on campus Saturday February 9 • New applicant/returning interviews from 8am to 5pm on campus Sunday February 10 • New applicants will be informed of whether they move on to a final round interview by 5pm.
Final Round Interviewing Process Friday February 15 12pm-5pm on campus • Conducting final round interviews for new applicants Saturday February 16 8am-5pm on campus • Conducting final round interviews for new applicants Note Interviews will be 30-45 minutes long.
Interviews • Returning members must sign up for an interview timescheduled for Friday February 8. • If you want to obtain a leadership position, be sure to also fill out Section 3 of the application • For Project Manager applicants: Practice Case Interview Questions and communicating your ideas/vision for the projects
Project Manager Training Project Managers will spend their President’s Day in training. • Individual training with Presidents to discuss the project individually for 1 hour. • Group training to discuss the role of project manager for one hour. Individual Project Manager Training • Monday Feb 18th, 1 hour slot between 10am-3pm @TBA Mandatory Project Manager Training: • Monday Feb 18th, 5:00pm @ TBA
Switch It Up! • We advise you to switch up positions/roles in BEACN • Returning members apply for leadership roles! • Position selection based on application, interviews, and last semester’s president’s meeting (f0r returning members) • Be open minded!
