Visible Camera Imaging of LLD Peer Review 6/19/09 S.J. Zweben, L. Roquemore, R. Kaita, H. Kugel et al • Motivation and Capabilities • Technical issues • Costs and alternatives
Motivation and Capabilities • Monitor ALL of LLD with good space / time resolution - two views from top of machine covering 360º - look for hot spots, arcs, or surface irregularities - look at various spectral regions with filter wheels • Capabilities of Phantom 7.3 - typically 800 x 600 frames @ 6600 frames/sec - ≤ 1 cm resolution @ 15 µs / frame continuously • - wavelength range ~ 400 - 1000 nn
Physics / Operations Justifications • Measure lithium evaporation rate from whole LLD (Li I line) • Look for hot spots on surface (≥ 500ºC) on whole LLD • Evaluate uniformity of coating / erosion in visible light • View LLD diagnostic tiles - probe array and electrodes • Measure turbulence at surface of LLD and effects of Li • View sample probe from top • Look for heating of ELMs and blobs on ≤10 µs timescale
