Hebrew def. • Man- Adam • This is the Hebrew word for "man". It could be ultimately derived from Hebrew אדם ('adam) meaning "to be red", referring to the ruddy colour of human skin, or from Akkadianadamu meaning "to make". According to Genesis in the Old Testament Adam was created from the earth by God (there is a word play on Hebrew אֲדָמָה ('adamah) "earth"). He and Eve were supposedly the first humans, living happily in the Garden of Eden until Adam ate a forbidden fruit given to him by Eve.
A Biblical Perspective • A man existed in the mind of God as a reality before he was made. Gen 1 vs 26 • Another definition for man is mankind which is both male and female. Gen 1 vs 27 • The main part of the humankind is the male/he part. Gen 1 vs 27- “created he him”
You will notice that, God’s way of doing things in the earth is to seek someone to head is plans; with the help of others. Examples of these are; • Building the ark- Noah ( and family) • Preparing to receive the redemptive seed in the earth through a linage- Abraham and Sarah ( and their descendants) • Leading the children of Isreal out of bondage-Moses (and siblings)
Giving birth to the Messiah- Mary (and Joseph) • Starting a family- Adam and Eve
Adam becoming a husband • God notice that it was not good for man to be alone- Gen 2 vs 18 He put man to sleep and removed a rib from him to make his wife- Gen 21 vs 23
Lets compare Jesus’ relationship with the Church to man and wife Jesus relationship with the church is a perfect example of how a man’s relationship with his wife should be- Eph 4 vs 23
Husband’s role and responsibilities • Head of his wife • Provides covering • Providing protection • Providing care • To defend • To love her 1 Cor 11vs 3, 1 Pet 3 vs 7 • A man must leave mother and father and cleave and become one flesh with his wife- Gen 21vs 24-25
