Key Steps Along the Way • Establishment of SLDS committee (NDCC 15.1-02-18) • Additional authority in 2011 with HB 1214 • 2009 PowerSchool is mandated as Student Information System for Public Schools • Fully funded in 2011 session • Scheduled to be complete – Fall 2013 • SFSF Phase II college readiness and feedback • Tracks timely enrollment in post-secondary and timely credit completion • Provide feedback to secondary on students needing remediation • FERPA revised in 2011 – eases the flow of data back down the ‘education chain’ • -Assessment agreements between districts and assessment vendor • NWEA, AIMSWeb, DIBELS, mCLASS • Alignment of local course codes with state and national course codes • Allows locally developed course descriptions to be linked to state standards • Critical to success of scholarship and eTranscript applications

Data Stewardship • Data Stewardship Committees • Assessment • AimsWeb(Grafton, WF, Mandan) • NWEA (LEAD, REA, Districts – Bismarck) • NDSA (LEAD and REA) • Growth Model on NDSA (LEAD and REA) • Incidence / Discipline data (Grafton and Mandan) • eTranscripts (DPI, Districts, Post Secondary) • Targeted Areas (Special Education, ELL, etc)
Steps Forward • - There is a fundamental shift from one-way data (Districts to State) to bi-directional data flow (District to State and back) • - Usable data; currently most reports are in a static format (.pdf form), we want to include a more usable “data” format (like excel) • - Relevant / Current data; we are working to more rapidly provide data (like assessment data) • - Beginning to roll-out with training mid-Apr 2012
Securing the SLDS • Role Based • K12 • District Administrators • School Administrators • Instructors • Health (immunization) • REA • NDUS • Developers • Grow in the future • Workforce
