Establishing Operations Zones • SAR is an area-specific specialty. • Type of area to be search dictates the kind and type of resource to be utilized. • Considering Operations Zones that might be affected can help with determining the kind, type and number of resources that might be pre-deployed or alerted for deployment.
Zone “A” – Impact Area Generally areas with high-density population and buildings of light, medium and heavy (reinforced) construction
Zone “B” – Interface Area Generally the rural interface and intermix. Single family residential areas with light and medium density buildings.
Zone “C” – Inland Area Generally sparsely populate rural areas with residential structures (mobile homes and light buildings)
Single Resource “The minimum number of personnel and equipment that can be assigned to a task”
Zone “A” Deployment • US & R Teams and Task Forces • “Short” Teams • US & R qualified Canine and Handler with a support person who is capable of handling the Canine • Assigned to US & R Teams that request Canine resources

The SAR “Tool Box” US & R deployed to operations involving • Light structures with moderate to heavy damage • Medium structures with obvious damage • Heavy (reinforced) structures with obvious damage
