A note from me… There are no Monday Messages this week for several reasons. Since I was absent Friday and Monday, I was not here to correct Friday’s testing. The folders could be sent home tomorrow b but that only gives students one day to return them before April break, making it difficult to get them all back before going home next Monday. Therefore…….not this week! Our final field trip for this year is on Thursday to the MAC Farm in Maricopa. Your child should be dressed appropriately for the weather….we will be outside for the majority of the day. They should wear closed toed shoes, have sunscreen already applied, and bring a water bottle. Our thanks to the chaperones whose names were drawn to accompany us….Mrs. Dobyns, Mr. Frost, and Mr. Jacobs. We are looking forward to a great trip down at the farm learning about farming in Arizona, water conservation, planting, and even harvesting our own radishes. Next week, April 9-13 is our annual Buy One Get One Free (BOGO) book fair going on all week in the Media Center. This is always a great opportunity to stock up on books for your home library as well as summer reading that is age-appropriate and at your child’s reading level. You can’t beat the price…..buy one, get one FREE! Your participation in our school book fair also helps provide much needed books for the Falcon Hill Media Center. Stop by next week and see what treasures you may find waiting for you! AIMS testing begins in less than two weeks. I hope you are taking advantage of the opportunity to watch your child practice testing strategies as well as their skills on the sample online AIMS tests. This is one time when I request that you do sit with your child as they do these activities…..have them read the directions aloud to you, see how they solve the problems, reason, etc. It can be a very educational experience for both of you! Once again, the link to AIMS practice tests are on our school website: http://www.mpsaz.org/falconhill From there you can click on the link for AIMS practice tests. Dr. Taylor David will be visiting our class next week to explain to the students the importance of doing their very best on these tests. If a student is found to be goofing off, wasting time, zipping through the material without careful attention, not showing work on mathematical sections, not thoroughly checking their work, etc., the parent will receive a phone call that day to inform them of the situation. This is a serious matter and should be treated as such for your child to exhibit their very best. An AIMS Celebration will be held at the conclusion of our testing week for those students who worked carefully and sincerely did their very best. Your child’s attendance the week of April 16th is critical. Make up tests will be given to students who are absent during regular testing days. We will be doing lots of practicing this week and next to review the concepts and standards we have learned in preparation for AIMS week. I will be posting a new “page” on our class website that details testing strategies and good preparation for test week. Even though these tests are extremely important, I want to help your child relax and have a good experience rather than a stressful one. You can help by making sure your child has a good night’s sleep (9-11 hrs.) each night, and has a nutritious breakfast before coming to school each morning. Our class is working hard to try to be the “Beat the Bell Winners” for this month! Thanks for helping our students get to school on time each morning. “Field trip”is our mystery word this week. “Learning is a treasure that will follow it’s owner everywhere.” ----Chinese Proverb
