Matter-What is it? • Matter is a subtance that is made up of three parts Liquid, Gas,and Solid. • Example: Ice Ice goes from solid ice to water to evaporated water
States of matter! • Liquid Liquid stays in the shape of the container it is given so for example you put water in a square container it will be square • Solid Solid particles hold there shape and stay in the shape they were put in for example a table stays in a square shape. • Gas Gas is every where gas doesn’t have a definite shape for example water evaporating you cant see it but its there.
Physical & chemical properties! Chemical When something is burning on fire that is chemical change. For example: burning paper, Cooking food, Burning house, A forest fire. Bike rusting Physical Is anything that u do with your hands that doesn’t involve anything being cooked.
The difference between physical & Chemical! • Physical change doesn’t make new matter instead it just an action and ordinary person can do like for example Tearing a piece paper, cutting wood, ice turning into water, water evaporating. • Chemical change does make new matter for example it uses things that either burn, rust, that a person is cooking. For example A bike rusting, Of eggs sun side up being made, a house burning, of making s’mores.
What is an atom? It is a part of an element that give the element the energy to do what ever the element does. Atoms have three parts neutrons, electrons, and protons. Electrons have a negative charge, Protons have a positive charge, and Neutrons have no charge. += Protons -= Electrons nothing= Neutrons
What is an element! • An element is a single type of atom like if you have hydrogen of atom it is made up of protons and electrons if you change one it will change the element entirely.
Compounds! • Something that separate two thing together or some thing from an element. • For example salt can be easily seperated from water just put the water and salt together on top of a fire and the water will evaporate and there you go.
Periodic table! • How to read & use. • From www.class zone.com The Periodic Table has all of the known elements such as the famous one H2O also known as water, or you can have iron, gold ,carbon dioxide, silver.
Substance vs. mixture! • A subtance can become a chemical substance some examples of a chemical substance is pure water, some chemical substances are called pure so they wont get confused with mixture some other ones gold, table salt, and sugar. • A subtance made of a mixing substances together. Like mixing peanuts together in a bag or M&M or Skittles.
