Figuring Gross Words a MinuteGWAM • Every 5 strokes (punctuation marks, numbers, symbols, and spaces) equals 1 word. • Divide the total number of words keyed by the number of minutes you were timed. • Example: You keyed a total of 105 words in a 3 minute timing. • Divide 105 by 3 and your GWAM is 35 wpm.
