  5. Purpose & Need (Waterline) • Records indicate the line was placed into service in 1930’s. • There have been at least 4 documented water-main breaks within the last 10 years. • Recommended upsizing of the existing 6” line to 8” from North Star to Northwest to increase pressure & fire flows

  6. Purpose & Need (Storm Sewer) • No defined storm sewer system • Flooding problems in 5yr event along Northwest • Does not meet current water quality requirements • Ponding in roadway adds to roadway failure

  7. Purpose & Need (Safety) • Fire Accessibility • Roadway width • Parking • Not functional with current width and 2-way traffic • Traffic Calming • Connectivity to Schools • No regional pathway system throughout project • Does not connect to bike path on North Star

  9. Purpose & Need (Transportation) Waltham Road too Narrow Not Wide Enough for Two-Way Traffic and Dedicated Parking 25’ Wide Currently, Should Be ≥ 30’ 1/3 of Reported Crashes on Waltham Road Involve Parked Cars Increased Emergency vehicle response time

Purpose & Need (Transportation) Waltham Road/Northwest Boulevard Crash Rate is Over Twice the Statewide Average for a Similar Type Facility Excessive Delays for Eastbound and Westbound Traffic Crossing Northwest Boulevard Poor Viewing Angle on East Leg Looking South Incorrect lane usage for vehicles turning northbound from Edgement to Northwest
