I, Me, My! • You will be handed 10 items to start. • Mingle and ask others about their 4-H year. • If you say “I”, “me”, or “my” hand over one of your 10 items and move on to someone else. • If they say it, you get one of their items • Ask lots of questions!
Why fill out a diary? Besides that it is encouraged by the Alberta 4-H Program, your diary can help you: • Track your 4-H career. • Highlight your involvement. • Be used to write your resume. • Apply to programs and scholarships. • Track points towards the Awards of Excellence.
Brainstorming! The Year in a Nutshell • Discuss, as a group, all of the items members plan to put in their diaries. • Share your experiences, some members might not know that certain things count!
Yes! I did that! • Pair up and review the list we just brainstormed. • Write down the items that are applicable to you. • Ask other members about their experiences to see if you’d like to try it next year!
What to Avoid • I was a Sr in 05/06 in the M.H. C.R. 4-H Club (C.C. dist.). • My proj. was a dk gr DLH with grn eyes. • We visited the M.H. SPCA, The U of L and the YMCA during the club year. Huh??
Where can I learn more? • The diary contains most of the information you will need to know in the scoring guide. • Consider asking a senior/experienced member, Key Member or club leader if it is okay for you to call them with questions. • Visit the Alberta 4-H Website at www.4h.ab.ca
Conclusion • Are there any tips anyone would like to share with the group? • Remember to keep your diary in a safe place. Not only might you need them as proof, but maybe one day you’ll be a Key Member and want to use it as an example.
