  2. Hi my name is Elle • My biome is __African______ • 3 Fun Facts about Me: • The elephant’s closest living relative is the rock hyrax, a small furry mammal that lives in rocky landscapes across sub-Saharan Africa and along the coast of the Arabian peninsula. • African elephants are the largest land mammals on the planet, and the females of this species undergo the longest pregnancy—22 months. • Despite their size, elephants can be turned off by the smallest of critters. One study found that they avoid eating a type of acacia tree that is home to ants. Underfoot, ants can be crushed, but an elephant wants to avoid getting the ants inside its trunk, which is full of sensitive nerve endings. Thanks for coming to my page

  3. Hi my name is Shelly • My biome is:____desert_____ • 3 Fun Fact About Me: • Meerkats are highly social and charismatic mongooses that live throughout southern Africa. Famous for their striking upright posture, meerkats also have keen senses of smell, vision and hearing. • Adult meerkats have to teach youngsters what to eat. Moms will bring home whole foods such as insects or lizards, even scorpions, so the young meerkats can learn how to kill them without getting hurt. • Groups of two or three meerkat families, called mobs, live together in burrows. Mobs spend a lot of their time grooming and playing with each other to bond as a family unit. Thanks for coming to my page

  4. Hi my name is Fred • My biome is:__Australia___ • 3 Fun Facts About Me: • Koalas are not bears. They are not placental or 'eutherian' mammals, but MARSUPIALS, which means that their young are born immature & they develop further in the safety of a pouch. It’s incorrect to call them ‘koala bears' - their correct name is simply 'koalas'. • Koalas have 5 digits on each front paw, two of which are opposed to the others, much like our thumbs are able to be moved differently from the fingers. This helps them to hold firmly onto the branches and to grip their food. The 2nd and 3rd digits on their hind paws are fused together to form a grooming claw. • Koalas are mostly nocturnal. Nocturnal animals are awake at night and asleep during the day. Koalas, however, sleep for part of the night and also sometimes move about in the daytime. They often sleep for up to 18-20 hours each day. Thanks for coming to my page

  5. Thanks for coming to my page. • Hi my name is Snowflake • My biome is:___ tundra________ • 3 fun facts about me: • Despite what photos may tell you, polar bears are not white. The hair of a polar bear is actually transparent, made up of a thick hollow core that reflects light. As the light bounces on the air spaces between hairs, you see white, a reflection of all colors combined. • They’re excellent swimmers. In fact, they spend so much time in the water that some scientists prefer to classify them as marine mammals. Because their front paws have webbed toes, polar bears are able to paddle better through the water, generating enough momentum to swim for up to 70 miles at a stretch. The webbed toes, along with rough padded feet, are also essential to prevent slipping on the ice. • 3. They are obsessive about keeping clean. Following mealtime, they will spend 15-20 minutes grooming themselves, making sure there is no dirt or residue left on them that may interfere with the insulating properties of their fur.

  6. During this time the fertilized egg is free-floating and not attached to the uterine wall. Thanks for coming to my page
