  3. Introductions • Name • What do you hope to learn from these halaqas • Show of hands – who has already learned some tafseer before?

  4. Objectives • To attain a brief understanding of the Qu’ran through summarized word analysis and exegesis (tafseer) • To be able to derive practical lessons from the ayahs of the Qu’ran and incorporate them in to my daily routine • To conduct a self analysis through Surah Checklists • To be able to reflect and think critically about the ayahs of the Qu’ran

  5. Class Etiquettes  • Try your best to be on time • Ask relevant questions • Participate • Listen to your peers and respect their opinion • Share personal reflections – but no names! • Renew your intention every time  • Take practical notes

  6. What to Bring to Class • Mushaf (with or without translation) • Individual Juz for taking notes • Notebook • Something to write with • Sticky Notes for reflections (Gem Board)

  7. Intentions • Why am I here? • Am I learning the Book of Allah FOR the sake of Allah SWT? • Hadith: Actions are but by intention and every person will have that which he/she intended (Bukhari & Muslim)

  9. Verse 1 ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ Khaaliq Maalik Mudabbir Praise that is due to: Love Respect Deserving

  10. Verse 2 ٱلرَّحِيمِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ Special/Specific Compassion General Compassion

  11. Verse 3 مَـٰلِكِ ٱلدِّينِ يَوْمِ All authority will be Allah’s on the Day of Recompense

  12. Verse 4 نَسْتَعِينُ إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ Worship – shows smallness and humility Even for worship we need Allah’s help

  13. Verse 5 ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ ٱلصِّرَٲطَ ٱهْدِنَا 1. Irshaad 2. Tawfeeq

  14. Verse 6 عَلَيْهِمْ أَنْعَمْتَ ٱلَّذِينَ صِرَٲطَ Prophets Truthful Ones Martyrs Righteous Ones

  15. Verse 7 غَيْرِ عَلَيْهِمْ ٱلْمَغْضُوبِ وَلَا ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
