  5. 1. What is the difference between a calorie and a Calorie? • A calorie is the amount of heat needed to raise 1 gram of water 1 degree celcius. • A Calorie measures food energy, and is equal to 1000 calories (1 Kilocalorie)

  6. 2. How many Calories are in 1 gram of: • Fat = 9 Calories • Carbohydrate = 4 Calories • Protein = 4 Calories • (Alcohol) = 7 Calories (not a necessary nutrient)

  7. 3. How many Calories on average do you need daily? • Teenage boys on average need 2800 Calories per day. • Teenage girls on average need 2200 Calories per day. • Active individuals need more than the above listed amount.
