Comparing laser in situ keratomileusis and photorefractive keratectomy in different eyes of the same patient. Joseph Frucht-Pery, MD, Faik Orucov, MD*, David Landau, MD, Eyal Strassman, MD, Abraham Solomon, MD Department of Ophthalmology, Hadassah University Hospital; School of Medicine – Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel
LASIK PURPOSE VS To compare visual outcome of laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) in fellow eyes.
LASIK METHODS VS • 50 myopic patients who underwent LASIK in one eye and PRK in the fellow eye. • DECISION FOR PRK: when we couldn't do LASIK: • - I-S ratio greater than 1.4 • - Residual stromal bed ≤ 250μ • - CCT ≤ 470μ • Minimum F/U 6 months.

LASIK RESULTS VS POSTOPERATIVE UCVA Postoperative UCVA • ≥20/40; 100% in LASIK, 92% in PRK • ≥20/20;74% in LASIK, 66% in PRK
LASIK RESULTS VS The BCVA • Improved 14 (28.0%) and in 19 (38.0%) patients in LASIK and PRK • Unchanged 31(62.0%) and in 26 (52.0%) patients in LASIK and PRK • Decreased 5 (10.0%) and in 5(10.0%) patients in LASIK and in PRK 31 62.0% LASIK PRK 26 52.0% 19 38.0% 14 28.0% 5 10.0% 5 10.0%

LASIK CONCLUSION VS There is no difference in the outcome of LASIK and PRK in the fellow eye.
