Working Outside The Country as an OFW • Working outside the country and leaving your loved ones is the most challenging part of many people who have secured a job abroad. • The culture and different languages that you have to get used to is also part of the things that you need to learn and study in preparing for your job abroad. It is important to learn how to prepare for your job abroad so that you do not have any regrets later on and you will be able to adjust faster to your job.
Prepare the Necessary Documents • A piece of written, printed, or electronic matter that provides information or evidence or that serves as an official record. • For the start of your process, you need to prepare the following documents such as: • Passport, Birth Certificate (Authenticated by NSO), NBI Clearance or Police Clearance, Certificates of Training, Professional License (if any) , High School or College Diploma, Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV), Marriage contract (for married female applicants), a certificate from the National Commission of Muslim Filipinos (for Muslim applicants) .
Avoid ILLEGAL Recruiters • There are some people offering a job to work abroad illegally. Think twice before accepting this offer. Increase your awareness on how to avoid illegal recruiters. • Do not deal with any person who is not an authorized representative of a licensed agency. • Do not listen to their convincing promises such as high salary, can easily work abroad within a few weeks, etc. Do not transact business outside the registered address of the agency. Be wise!
Choose a Licensed POEA Agency • Apply only at recruitment agencies licensed by POEA. Accept overseas job offers using employment or work visa/permit and not tourist/visit visa. • Check with POEA whether the position you are applying for has an approved job order. Transact directly with government offices/personnel instead of dealing with fixers.
Know Your Strength and Capabilities • When working abroad your strength and capabilities are very important so that you can do your work accurately. • Check your strength if you are capable of a job that you are applying for. • Know yourself If you can do a task that will be given to you. This will be harder for you to work once you don’t know your strength and capabilities.
Prepare Mentally and Emotionally • You have to get used to leaving your family behind. If you have kids this may be harder than you think. You have to be brave in sense that you may not be able to hug or kiss your kids for a couple of months or years. • You need to prepare yourself mentally and emotionally with dealing with being separate with your loved ones for a long time. • It is not easy at the beginning but with proper planning and courage, you will be able to deal with the challenges that come with working abroad.
