Accept that you cannot control everything • Learn what triggers your symptoms • Breathing techniques • Physical activity • Take a time-out • Do your best • Welcome humor Dealing with Mental Health
Minute 1: Breathe deeply • Inhale- count of four; Exhale- count of six Minute 2: Find your natural pace • Stop counting and fall into an easy rhythm • Tune into the rising and falling sensation Minute 3: Stay focused • Continue to stay aware of your breathing • Ignore random thoughts that come into your head; think of them as clouds that float away. If the thoughts don’t stop, write them down Minute 4: Relax • Release your focus on your breathing and simply sit Minute 5: Give thanks • Think about something that you’re grateful for. • Transition your thoughts to how you feel physically: relaxed muscles and steadiness of your heartbeat. 5 Minute Meditation

Psychological problems do not exist on their own, nor do they come out of thin air; they are connected to people’s social support, employment status, housing conditions, history of discrimination, and overall personal and political power. [Therefore,] promoting complete health means promoting social justice for there cannot be health in the absence of justice. (Prilleltensky, 1999, p. 99). Need for Change
Releases “feel-good” brain chemicals • Gain confidence Meeting exercise goals or challenges, even small ones, can boost your self-confidence • Takes your mind off worries • More social interaction • Increases energy level • Simple forms of exercise: • Walking in park • Playing with kids • Add small amounts of physical activity throughout your day • Stairs instead of the elevator • Park a little farther away from your work to fit in a short walk • If possible, bike or walk on a regular basis Exercise & Recreation toDecrease Anxiety and Depression
