  3. FTP – the basics File Transfer Protocol (FTP) FTP is a protocol (In general protocol means sets of rules or guidelines that need to be followed. In communication it is called TCP/IP protocol) used for sending files between computers and over the internet. The protocol standard describes how this file transfer should take place. How does it happen? The server will be running a "FTP server" application that is constantly listening for transfer requests. Your computer will have an 'FTP client' that sets up the connection to the server. Normally user-name and password are required to access the server. Once the connection is set up, you can either download files from the server or upload file to the server. You cannot hide or block your IP address because your computer would not be able to communicate with other computers on the Internet. It is like mailing a letter, if the address is not known the letter cannot mailed. To hide your IP Address from web sites a "proxy" can be used. A "proxy" is like a mail forwarding service, the sender does not know the final destination of the message. • Your Browser Type and Operating System: • Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.22 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/25.0.1364.97 Safari/537.22
