SWANS 05 Objectives • SWMU/SWANS Objective – Enthuse Technical Managers and those who influence them (operational authorities, consultants and advisers) to initiate or invigorate pilot projects using OWL/RDF and Semantic Web tools • Enthuse with high-level influential keynote speakers • Describe technology innovations • Show successful projects • Provide opportunity to view broad range of technology innovations through Trade Show • Provide tutorials for more detail information transfer • Provide “office hours” opportunity for one-on-one discussions with key Semantic Web
SWANS 05 Agenda • Agenda – Two days • Day One, Motivation, Explanation, and Demonstration • Keynote Speakers (desired - to be confirmed): Tim Berners-Lee and LGEN Boutelle • Describe Status of Semantic Web • Describe Pilot Program tools, availability • Provide presentations and demonstrations of selected mature pilot projects (Key demos are some DARPA efforts and Intel Community efforts) • Day Two, Tutorials, Trade Show, and Office Hours • Tutorials on Semantic Web Tools, Services, and Ontologies • Trade Show – wide range of users to be invited • Office Hours – opportunity for one-on-one discussions with key Semantic Web people, Mark Greaves, Jim Hendler, possibly others.
SWANS 05 Target Audience • Invitation List/Audience • Senior Government/Military/Intel Community who are either in a role of influencing or managing technical innovation projects in information technologies • Last SWMU had 100 attendees, about 50 Government employees, about 50 technical support contractors • Would like to expand using SICoP available lists to 300+ potential invitees

SWANS Call for Trade Show Participation • Two types of Semantic Web capabilities sought. • COTS products that are mature • Fairly well developed research capabilities or systems that are mature enough to be expected to result in near term capabilities • Financial Responsibility: Participants will not be compensated for participation, i.e., it is a “pay as you go” • The Government will provide for space and access to the Web • Process: Selection of candidates based two-page papers describing the proposed technology to be demonstrated • Submitted by November 22, 2004 in order to be considered. • Only products using W3C OWL Web Ontology Language (as opposed to compatibility only with previous semantic language versions, such as DAML or DAML+OIL) should respond to this invitation. • Selections are expected to be made by December 12, 2004.
