October 26, 2015“Where There is No Vision” Proverbs 29:18 1 Peter 2:4-10
It starts with Him – 1 Peter 2:4 It moves to us – 1 Peter 2:5, 9 Chosen people A royal priesthood A holy nation Belonging to God To declare His praises
“Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” 1 Peter 5:10
“What if God, choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath—prepared for destruction? What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy,
“whom he prepared in advance for glory—even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles? As he says in Hosea, ‘I will call them “my people” who are not my people;
“‘and I will call her “my loved one” who is not my loved one,’ and, ‘It will happen that in the very place where it was said to them, “you are not my people,” they will be called “sons of the living God.”’” Romans 9:22-26 NIV

“And I, if and when I am lifted up from the earth [on the cross], will draw all people to Myself [Gentiles as well as Jews].” John 12:32 Amplified Bible It ALWAYS starts with Him! It ALWAYS then moves through us!
“the living Stone . . . rejected . . . . chosen . . . precious” “God uses what man rejects and often He rejects what man approves.”
“God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” Acts 2:36 NIV “you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house”
“In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.” Ephesians 2:21-22 NIV
“And I tell you, you are Peter [Greek, Petros–a large piece of rock], and on this rock [Greek, petra–a huge rock like Gibraltar] I will build My church and the gates of Hades (the powers of the infernal region) shall not overpower it [or be strong to its detriment or hold out against it].” Matthew 16:18 Amplified Bible Classic
The Church that Christ is building is not merely a localized group of people but it is a universal Body! So we are a community with a responsibility . . .
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, . . .” “. . . that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

Completely destitute, nothing at all Luke 11 – Begging for bread at midnight Luke 18 – The widow and the unjust judge
“Blessed is the man who has made that ‘I have nothing’ the motto of his ministry.” Andrew Murray The reason for Pentecost A destitute, beggarly church prayed for 10 days
“God likes to see His people shut up to this, that there is no hope but in prayer!” Andrew Bonar What happens when people begin to pray out of poverty?
From poor to Pentecost From poor to Power “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Acts 3:6
The legacy of Laodicea “You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ “But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.” Revelation 3:17
2. The Blessing of a Church in Mourning “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew 5:4 Desperate – Mourning for the presence of Jesus
“Mourn like a virgin in sackcloth grieving for the husband of her youth.” Joel 1:8 “The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.” Matthew 9:15
“A deep mourning must be awakened in the heart of the ones betrothed to Him. We fast to remind our hearts that He has been taken away, for we have grown used to His absence. The fasting gives way to mourning and, in mourning,
“we enter the holy cry, ‘Come!’—the cry that all of Scripture presses to leave in our hearts.” Dana Chandler In John 16 Jesus told His disciples that their grief when He leaves would turn to joy when the Spirit comes
“Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be . . . What is the Holy Spirit’s name? In the upper room Most churches have opted to be entertained What would we rather have?
“He who testifies to these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.” Revelation 22:20 The culture of a praying church is destitution, desperation, and . . .
3. The Blessing of a Dependent Church “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:5 Dependent – Meekly led by the Spirit

This is the leader God needs Most of the problems in the church come . . . We must develop a “waiting on God” culture!
A profile of meekness – Acts 10 We MUST be willing to be led All of our decisions must be based on our dependence on the Holy Spirit
The culture of the praying church is Destitution Desperation Dependence
“For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have.” 2 Corinthians 8:12
“On the first day of the week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.” 1 Corinthians 16:2
2) Spiritual renewal comes when people are generous “For God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things, at all times, having all that you need,
“you will abound in every good work. . . . Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of righteousness. You will be made rich in every way.” 2 Corinthians 9:7-11
3) Sowing is the key to growing “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.” 2 Corinthians 9:6
The Cycle of Victorious Giving . . . Trust to Live Commit to Grow
“Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity!” Luke 6:38 The Message
This awareness was His strength Either by persuasion He used no force Or by physical power He knew He was in His Father’s will
