  1. Who has seen a movie based off of a book? Was it how you pictured it to be? What if you were in charge of making a story/book into a movie?

  2. The BLACK CATMovie Proposal By: Ms. Stokes

  3. Setting • Since the setting is the place and time where a story takes place, the setting of the “Black Cat” would be the narrator’s house, including the outside of his house and his cellar. The time period that the story takes place is the mid 1800s. Other Locations: Jail Cell, Tavern

  4. Setting This is the house and house cellar that I chose for my movie. I chose this as my setting, because I pictured the house to be old, creepy, and average in size. I chose this cellar since the cellar is “loosely constructed” according to the story.

  5. Characters • Protagonist: The Narrator • He is the protagonist, because the story is told from his perspective. It is his life story that we learn about, and he is the character we follow in the story. • Antagonist: The Black Cat • From the narrator’s point of view, the black cat is his antagonist. This cat serves as a reminder of what he did to Pluto. He also feels that this cat caused him to kill his wife and exposed the body. Other Characters: The Narrator’s Wife, Pluto, The Narrator’s other animals, The Black Cat, and The Policemen

  6. Characters • Narrator: Johnny Depp • I chose Johnny Depp for my movie, because he is a great actor and can play such diverse roles. I feel he is a perfect choice in playing the role of a creepy, abusive alcoholic, especially based off of the role he played as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean.

  7. Characters • Narrator’s Wife: Michelle Pfeiffer • I chose Michelle Pfeiffer for my movie, because I felt she could play the role of a kind, loyal wife who loves animals. I also chose her since she has worked with Johnny Depp in the past in Dark Shadows and was the Catwomen in Batman Returns.

  8. Characters The Black Cat: Smokey Pluto: Binx (Hocus Pocus) I chose Binx to play Pluto for my movie, because he is famous black cat actor. I chose Smokey to play the black cat for my movie, because he is a black cat with a white spot on his chest, just like in the story.

  9. Theme • The Negative Effects of Drugs and Alcohol • The narrator in this story begins abusing his wife and pets when his drinking got out of control. Due to alcoholism, which he refers to as his “disease”, he eventually kills both, his cat and his wife tragically.

  10. Literary DeviceFlashback • The flashback occurred right in the beginning of the story. The narrator opened with “to-morrow I die, and today I would unburden my soul.” The narrator then shares his story, which has happened in the past. Majority of the story is a flashback since everything the narrator shares has taken place before the present time in the story.

  11. Conflict • The conflict is that the narrator has a drinking problem. The narrator’s drinking problem has caused him to abuse his animals and wife. This drinking problem eventually leads him to killing his favorite pet, Pluto, and killing his wife.

  12. Movie Rating I chose to make my movie rated R, due to the violence that it will contain. Like in the story, my movie will contain a cat, who gets its eye cut out of its socket and is hung, and a woman, who gets killed with an axe to the head.

  13. Now it is your Turn To make a movie proposal! HAVE FUN WITH IT! 
