Module Objectives • Upon successful completion of this module, students should be able to: • explain the concepts of electric circuit, voltage, current and resistance. • understand the relation between these terms. • understand batteries as dc power sources. • understand the basic concepts of voltage monitoring voltage measurement, voltage control and voltage regulation. • conduct voltage measurements and process obtained data.
4.1 Introduction to Current and Voltage current, continuous movement of free electrons through a circuit is called a current Electric Circuit Basically an electric circuit consists of a voltage source, a load(with some resistance) and a closed pathfor current flow.
Resistance Free electrons tend to move through conductors with some degree of opposition to motion. This opposition to movement of electrons is called resistance. The amount of current in a circuit depends on the amount of voltage available to motivate the electrons, and also the amount of resistance in the circuit to oppose electron flow.
