  10. Has this ever happened to you…?

  11. Avoiding Awkward Moments Group Activity • Break into two groups and think of 5 of the most awkward situations you’ve ever been in. Don’t write how it was resolved, if it was! • Trade with the other team and answer their awkward situations

  12. Avoiding Awkward Moments I have an office mate whom I like very much. But she’s started falling asleep at her desk — sometimes snoring. This has been happening almost daily for months now, and I’m getting frustrated. Should I wake her? I don’t want to embarrass her, but I don’t want her to get in trouble, either. Or do I butt out? — Sarah • Swell as it sounds to reinstate nap time — with blankies and nursery-school teachers monitoring our nation’s conference rooms — I don’t believe our employers would go for it. So, a word to the nodding-off would be a kindness. Tomorrow morning, before your colleague has a chance to hit the hay, tell her: “I hope you won’t mind my speaking up, but I love sharing an office with you, and I’m afraid you’re going to get into trouble if you keep snoozing in the afternoons. Is everything O.K.? Would you like a nudge when you drop off?” It’s probably none of our business why this woman is re-enacting “The Big Sleep.” But when we’re motivated by appropriate concern — and make our affection plain — we buy some extra leeway with folks, even Sleepy Time Gals.

  13. NYT’s “Social Qs”Social Q's offers lighthearted advice about awkward social situations. • Appropriate • Be sure that your point is valid • Meets social standards • Affection • Show that you’re not being selfish…though you might really be looking out for your interests • It’s about playing to their ego • After all it’s not what you say, it’s…?

  14. Daniel’s Conclusion • Be Confident ya wimp!
